Setting

The Overlook, Danny’s Bedroom

The interior of Danny’s space is never shown in full but from No.13, the viewer can see that the room is a creamy yellow. This is important to remember because come No.48, Kubrick is going to bathe the space in the same green as Room 237’s bathroom. In No.50, it’s Danny’s bedding that’;s turned green. By No.54, things are back to yellow again.

Whether the book shown within the inset shelves are from The Torrance’s or they’re just decorations, one thing’s for sure- it mimics the Torrance living space, Danny’s cluttered shelves, and the truth that the problems have been brought with them. This is part of the American History Narrative, Domestic Abuse Narrative, and The Maze Narrative Device.

The sink inset reflects both No.6 and the conversation Danny has with Tony in the reflection, but also No.48’s Room 237 bathroom as we’ll be shown later. This links to The Maze, Domestic Abuse, Ghost Story Narratives.

The framed bears are a theme that represents Danny across the entire film.
